R.I. Gen. Laws § 23-33-10
§ 23-33-10. Inspectors authorized to conduct inspections.
Only the chief inspector and/or any of the chiefâs compliance inspectors shall inspect new elevators, and other devices subject to the provisions of this chapter in any building within this state, including sidewalk elevators and outside wall elevators. Existing elevators and escalators shall be inspected either by the chief or any of his or her compliance inspectors, or by any authorized inspector.
